We're Ready For Our Trip to the DR!

This daily blog will help our friends and families in the US keep track of our service trip to the Dominican Republic.  We'll be leaving Friday morning at 6:15, and Rita Severinghaus is already there waiting for us.  As we have in past years, we hope to have guest bloggers and photos as we work with the communities in Hernando Alanso, on the outskirts of the city of Cotui. Keep us in your prayers for safe travel!

  1. We have arrived safely in the DR! We had a very smooth trip, leaving the Upper Valley on time and making it to JFK right at Noon as scheduled. Checking in and checking baggage was a seamless process, and after lunch our flight departed half an hour late. Not bad! The trip was uneventful, and we made it through customs without a hiccup. Our wonderful Driver Glen was waiting along with Rita, her daughter Elysa and her cousin Luis. We made short work of packing the bus with our 34 pieces of luggage, most of it crammed with vitamins, medical supplies, and donated clothing.
After a short trip,we arrived at the wonderful Sana hotel, our Secret Garden. Supper was waiting, washed down with several glasses of tamarind juice, sweet and full of antioxidants. We'll be heading to bed shortly, and then up early for a full day tomorrow, traveling to Cotui and beginning our preparations for a week of work. Everyone is happy, healthy and tired. More details to follow soon!
